Safety during your winter stay

Winter is beautiful in the Ogden Valley but can also be very unpredictable and bring many hazards along with it. Just this past week and a half the Ogden Valley experienced much larger storm that usual first bringing in a lot of snow then freezing temperatures then several days of nonstop snow that closed down the road going up to Powder Mountain Ski resort for several days.
We wanted to share a few tips to make your Winter/Ski vacation more enjoyable and hopefully keep you and your family safe.

  • If in question about possible weather conditions always check before leaving your condo. You can search for Powder Mountain Ski Area on weather.com or Eden UT. Nordic Valley ski resort is in Eden and Snowbasin ski resort is located in Huntsville.
  •  Road conditions can be found at this website: Utah Commuterlink Under the heading "Canyons, Passes and Ski Areas outside the Salt Lake Area". Look for information about SR-167 Trappers loop for the road that goes to Snowbasin and SR-158 for the road that goes to Powder Mountain. Powder Mountain also has road information and web cameras on their website at www.powdermountain.com
  • If possible carry extra gear, emergency supplies and extra food in your car with you. Sometimes under heavy snow conditions it becomes easy to find yourself stuck. A printable list with items for a winter car emergency kit can be found here Car survival and emergency kit Granted, if you have a rental car this will not always be possible but carrying as many extra supplies as you can will put you that much further ahead in an emergency.

One thing we do get a lot of questions about are the roads up here and if they are maintained throughout the winter. The road going to Wolf Creek Village 1 and Powder Ridge Village is maintained all winter along with the road to Snowbasin and Nordic Valley Ski resort. You will not need a snowmobile or snow cat to get to our resort.

The above article is is not indicative of the Ogden Valley throughout the entire winter season, but is intended to keep you safe throughout your stay with us. Because most of all you are here to have fun and experience some world class skiing.
